GENEVA, ILLINOIS — The NHL Central Scouting Preliminary Watch List for the 2022 NHL Draft, released Tuesday, includes eight current Chicago Steel players, the most among independent USHL clubs.
“We’re grateful for NHL Central Scouting’s recognition of so many of our players‘ hard work and talent,” said Steel General Manager Mike Garman. “This acknowledgement is just the beginning for these players and we’re excited to watch them, as well as other Steel players not listed, transform into professionals during their time with us and beyond.”

The Steel are coming off the heels of the two most successful NHL Drafts in franchise history with a total of eight players with Chicago ties selected in both the 2020 and 2021 NHL Drafts. In both years, the Steel had the most draft picks of any independent junior team in the world.
In total, the United States Hockey League has 68 current players named on the preliminary list.
