Even the snooty maître d from Ferris Bueller thinks you should go to Ferris Bueller Night this Saturday! Better listen, we don’t want him calling the police . . .
GENEVA, ILLINOIS — Chicago Steel hockey moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it.
As reigning Clark Cup Champions, the Chicago Steel may indeed be the “Hockey Kings of Chicago” and this Saturday, Steel fans will be saying “Ferris Bueller, you’re my hero” at Ferris Bueller’s Day at a Steel Game presented by Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush with a ‘Save Ferris’ Rusty bobblehead giveaway for the first 500 fans.
You won’t have to get snooty with our ticket office as tickets start at just $10 by calling 855-51-STEEL or visiting ChicagoSteelHockeyTeam.com. We would offer to come to the front door but we’re afraid that in our weakened condition, we could take a nasty fall down the stairs and subject ourselves to further (work) absences.
You’re not dying, you just can’t think of anything good to do this weekend, now be a man. Take some Pepto Bismol and come over to the Chicago Steel game!
Saturday’s game against the Madison Capitols (24-22-2-0; 50 pts.) is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT and will feature Ferris Bueller-themed promotions, video clips, music (Danke Shoen, anyone?) and more as the Steel pay tribute to the 35th anniversary of the classic movie.
With just nine home games remaining on the regular season schedule, the weekend action beings Friday, March 11 as the Steel (27-11-7-1; 62 pts.) face off against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (20-21-2-1; 43 pts.) at 7:05 pm CT.
Friday is Meme Night presented by Meyer Signs and Graphics. Everyone’s favorite memes will be making appearances during the course of the night with games and trivia for fans during the evening. With the rollercoaster of emotions that naturally comes during a hockey game, Friday night will be packed with references to memes both new and old.
Chicago split two games against the Green Bay Gamblers to start the month of March with a 7-4 win on March 4 at Resch Center in Wisconsin and a 2-1 loss on March 5 at Fox Valley Ice Arena.
In Friday’s victory, Adam Fantilli was one of three Steel skaters who potted a pair of goals with two shorthanded markers to put the University of Michigan commit into a tie for second all-time on the Steel goals list with Robert Mastrosimone (Steel 2017-2019) with 47 markers each.
The Steel currently trail the Dubuque Fighting Saints (29-13-2-3; 63 pts.) by one point for first place in the Eastern Conference.
The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are locked in a battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Green Bay Gamblers for sixth place with 43 points apiece.
The Steel are 4-1-1-0 against the RoughRiders this season with a 2-0-0-0 mark on home ice at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Chicago and Cedar Rapids are scheduled to meet three more times this season including Friday’s contest, with all three games on Steel home ice.
Currently sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, the Madison Capitols have reached the 50-point plateau for the fifth time in the club’s seven seasons, just nine points shy of matching the franchise record for points in a season during the inaugural 2014-2015 campaign when the team posted 59 points.
Capitols netminder Simon Latkoczy, a member of the 2021 Clark Cup champion Steel, has played the second-most minutes of any netminder in the USHL this season, totaling 1,883 minutes and has recorded 19 of Madison’s 24 wins in net.
Headlining Madison’s offense is a pair of defensemen, Luke Mittelstadt and Ben Dexheimer. Mittelstadt, a University of Minnesota commit, leads the team with 43 points (16G, 27A) in 48 games and Dexheimer has accounted for 39 points (7G, 32A) in his first USHL season, ranking third among Madison skaters. Both Mittelstadt and Dexheimer have accounted for three helpers apiece against the Steel during the 2021-2022 regular season.
After the weekend of home games, the Steel embark on a stretch of five games in nine days starting with a road matchup against the Madison Capitols on Friday, March 18 at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena followed by home games against the Youngstown Phantoms on Saturday, March 19 (7:05 pm CT), Sunday, March 20 (3:05 pm CT) and Thursday, March 24 (7:05 pm CT) before traveling to Dubuque on Saturday, March 26 (7:05 pm CT).
Steel single-game tickets start at just $10 and are available in person at the Steel Box Office at Fox Valley Ice Arena, by phone at 855-51-STEEL and online at chicagosteelhockeyteam.com. The Steel offer single-game ticket discounts for kids 12 and under and military.
