GENEVA, ILLINOIS – The Chicago Steel announced Monday their 2016-2017 Promotions Schedule, a collection of fun and exciting activities designed to enhance the game night experience for all fans. With future college and pro stars on display nights, and with tickets starting at just $10 and parking always free, the Steel are ready to face off for their second season at Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva.
The schedule includes an incredible Opening Night replica youth jersey giveaway (Sept. 24), the return of favorites like Chicago Blackhawks Night (Jan. 21), the Teddy Bear Toss (Dec. 10) and Military Appreciation Night (Feb. 3), and several new additions including a 25th Anniversary Wayne’s World Celebration (Jan. 28), the chance to bring your dog to the game (Oct. 8) and two chances to Skate with the Steel after the game (Dec. 30 and Mar. 26).
“From top to bottom, we believe this schedule truly has something for everyone,” said Steel President Dan Lehv. “We’re going to have a lot of fun this season, be able to support and bring attention to worthy causes, and connect our fans to our players through numerous opportunities to meet and interact with the team.”
Following a tailgate event this Sunday, Sept. 4 with fun, games, and food prior to the team’s only home exhibition game, the regular season begins with the most anticipated giveaway of the season. Saturday, Sept. 24 is Opening Night and the first 500 kids 14 and under will receive a replica Steel jersey. The giveaway fun continues the following weekend as the first 1,000 fans through the doors for the Saturday, Oct. 1 home game will receive a 2016-2017 magnet schedule.
October continues with a flurry of new promotional nights that will entice fans to bring their two…and four-legged…friends to the rink. Saturday, Oct. 8, the Steel present Pucks and Pups Night, as fans can bring their well-trained dogs to the rink. Canine admission is free with a paid human. Saturday, Oct. 22 is a Halloween Costume Preview, and kids are invited for a costume parade during intermission and the chance to trick-or-treat with the Steel following the game while receiving autographs from the entire team. The month wraps up with “Momtober,” on Saturday, Oct. 28, a night devoted to celebrating mom. Ladies can choose to purchase entry into an exclusive pre-game wine tasting event that night.
The promotions schedule features several special events designed to raise money or awareness for worthy causes. On Friday, Nov. 11, FONA International presents a night to benefit the Geneva Academic Foundation. Last season, the Steel partnered with GAF to present scholarships to two Geneva Community High School graduating seniors. Saturday, Nov. 12 is the first of two Faith and Family Nights (the second is Saturday, March 11), which features a post-game discussion led by select members of the Steel team and coaching staff. November wraps up with two big games during Thanksgiving Weekend including the opportunity to get post-game autographs from the entire team following the Saturday, Nov. 26 game.
December is highlighted by several big holiday events. Saturday, Dec. 10 is the Steel Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped stuffed animals and throw them onto the ice after the first Steel goal. The stuffed animals are then donated to charity. Fans are also encouraged to bring a gift on Friday, Dec. 16, and this time those who give will also receive during our giant Secret Santa game. December wraps up with the first of two chances this season to Skate with the Steel following the Friday, Dec. 30 game.
The Steel usher in the new year with renewals, as in the renewal of wedding vows during “You’re STEEL the One” Saturday, Jan. 14. Couples will receive the chance to renew their vows on the ice during the night. Sunday, Jan. 15 is Daddy Daughter Princess Day and another chance to get post-game autographs from the entire team.
The second half of January features four of the most anticipated promotions this season. Friday, Jan. 20 is Stone Cold Steel – a wrestling tribute. The following night, Saturday, Jan. 21, is Chicago Blackhawks Night. Last season, the Steel welcomed national anthem performer Jim Cornelison, Tommy Hawk, Stanley Cup Champion Daniel Carcillo and the Blackhawks Bud Light Ice Crew for a memorable night. On Friday, Jan. 27, pizza will be in high demand on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Night. Then it’s “Game On!” for a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Wayne’s World on Saturday, Jan. 28 with our neighbors from Aurora, Ill.
February begins with a salute to active military and veterans on Military Appreciation Night, Friday, Feb. 3. The following night, watch for non-stop 8-bit action on Blades of STEEL Night, celebrating 30 years since the video game’s initial release. Later in the month, Steel mascot Rusty will welcome his friends for his birthday celebration and mascot hockey game on Sunday, Feb. 19. Rusty will quickly need to locate his boots and spurs for Country and Western Night on Friday, Feb. 24.
Irish Night on Friday, March 17 highlights a big March and April for the Steel. As the team makes a playoff push, fans can wear green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Sunday, March 26 is the second opportunity for fans to Skate with the Steel after the game, and the date marks a Steel Family Pack Game. Fans are encouraged to visit the Steel website for a special offer for four or more tickets (to be announced soon) to this game and several other Family Pack Games during the season (Oct. 22, Nov. 25, Jan. 15, Feb. 19). The regular season home schedule wraps up with Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, April 7.
