Chicago defeats Madison 4-0 Saturday

GENEVA, ILLINOIS — In his first appearance since an Opening Night shutout, Steel netminder Ales Stezka did it again, stopping all 35 Madison shots to blank the Madison Capitols (2-4-0-0, 4 pts.) 4-0 Saturday at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Chicago remains the lone undefeated (6-0-0-0, 12 pts.) team in the USHL. Baker Shore, Johnny Walker and Jack Badini (2) scored for the Steel, while Wyatt Aamodt and Reilly Walsh each added a pair of assists.

Chicago opened up the scoring for a second consecutive night when Shore tallied his third goal of the season, collecting a rebound and burying a wrist shot past the glove side of Capitols goalie Daniel Lebedeff at 18:31.

In the second period, Aamodt’s chance down low bounced off Lebedeff and Walker quickly grabbed the rebound, sending a shot past the backstopper’s stick. Walker’s fourth goal of the season, tied for the team lead with Greg Printz, was recorded at 16:15.

In the third period, Walker drew a high-sticking penalty from Cole Hults. Just seconds into the man advantage, Badini redirected Walsh’s left point blast to increase the lead to 3-0 at 12:52. While Chicago’s Bobby Hampton sat in the box for hooking, Madison pulled their goalie with over three minutes remaining to create a 6-on-4 advantage. Stezka remained strong and denied multiple chances in front. Steel forward Tyler Gratton connected a pass to Badini, who secured a 4-0 victory with an empty net goal at 19:17.

The Steel now prepare for a three-game week, including road games Wednesday at Green Bay, and Friday at Cedar Rapids, before returning home on Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. Omaha. Face off against the Lancers is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It’s the first Family Pack game of season — purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four chuck-a-pucks starting at just $48!
