Chicago will attempt to become the first team to repeat as Clark Cup Champions since the Omaha Lancers won in the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 seasons. The top six teams from each conference qualify for this season’s playoffs (two additional teams per conference than 2016-2017) which will feature four rounds of play to determine the Clark Cup Champion.

The First Round of the Clark Cup Playoffs will see the top two seeds in each conference receive a bye, while seeds #3 and #4 will host best-of-three series against seeds #6 and #5 respectively. All First Round games will be hosted by the higher seed, and therefore the Steel will not host a playoff game in the First Round. If Chicago defeats Muskegon to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the Steel would face #1 seed Team USA (USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program) with home and road dates to be announced prior to the series.

The Steel won the Clark Cup for the first time in team history on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, defeating the Sioux City Musketeers, 2-1 in overtime, in Game 5 of the (best-of-five) Clark Cup Final at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Tyler Gratton scored the Cup-clinching goal at the 11:30 mark of overtime.
