GENEVA, ILLINOIS — The Chicago Steel (0-1-1-0, 1 pt.) return to Fox Valley Ice Arena for a pair of games during Home Opening Weekend on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6. Both games feature a great giveaway as the home schedule commences.
Friday, October 5 is Opening Night presented by McCue Chevy. When the Steel meet the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (1-0-1-0, 3 pts.), fans are welcome to arrive early as the first 500 fans will receive Touch Screen Gloves. The red gloves feature the Steel logo on one hand and the McCue Chevy logo on the other. Opening Night will feature the pre-game introduction of the 2018-2019 Steel roster.
Friday’s game will also feature a plethora of in-arena activities including intermission games like McCue Chevy Family Challenge (hockey families compete with two SUV’s on the ice) and Human Slingshot Bowling. In-game contests will include “The Cookie Game” in which contestants will be asked to roll a cookie from their forehead to mouth without using their hands.
Saturday, October 6, a 7:05 p.m. puck drop against the Green Bay Gamblers (1-1-0-0, 2 pts.), features a Magnet Schedule giveaway presented by 95.9 The River for the first 500 fans. Saturday’s matchup is also a Steel Family Pack game, which features a special deal for four tickets, hot dogs, sodas and chuck-a-pucks starting at just $48. The package must be purchased prior to Saturday. After the game, fans are invited to stick around for a full-team autograph session. This is a great way for fans to meet their favorite Steel player and get an autograph from the next NCAA or NHL superstar.
Tickets for both games are on sale now starting at just $10 with stadium seating on the glass still available for both games for just $20. The Steel have simplified seating and pricing for the 2018-2019 season and parking is always free.
The Steel began the 2018-2019 season last week at the USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Penn. Chicago left wing Robert Mastrosimone scored a pair of shorthanded goals in Friday’s contest but the Lincoln Stars scored a pair of late goals and eventually won the game in overtime, 5-4. On Saturday, the Steel scored five times but the Des Moines Buccaneers’ high-octane offense was too much to overcome in the 10-5 loss.
